Appstle Subscriptions App for Shopify: Full Guide, Features, Pricing & Experience
If you’re looking to install a subscription app feature for your Shopify ecommerce store, you’d probably have seen Appstle before. As of June 2026, it is the most highly rated subscription app in the Shopify App Store.
Our agency is highly focused on eCommerce builds for Shopify & WooCommerce, and we work with Appstle Subscriptions all the time. In this post, we break down what we like about it, important features, & our experience as a whole.
Why Should You Offer Subscriptions for Your eCommerce Store?
Before we start going down the details, let’s quickly cover why subscriptions can be a game-changer for your Shopify store:
Convenience for Customers
Firstly, subscriptions offer a much needed way to provide convenience for your customers. As we all know, adults nowadays can be super busy. Between handling the kids, taking care of parents, & working a day job, it’s really something to still have to visit your online store to make a necessary purchase.
That’s where subscriptions can come in to provide a form of time-saving convenience for your customers.
Money Mindset & Impulse Buys
When you delve deeper, you realize that the impact of a subscription sometimes goes beyond that of a simple transaction. At any time, when a customer engages in a transaction with your business to buy something, they effectively enter a state of mind where they are open to spending money with you.
This can result in customers sometimes buying more products from you on the spur of the moment, or considering other products that meet their upcoming and future needs. This can also have a downstream effect on future purchases too.
Consumer Habits
When a customer purchases a subscription from you, they often end up with a product or service that they use frequently. When practiced over the long term, this can result in the customer forming a dependency on the product or service, like a habit.
Boost Customer Lifetime Value
In the end, all these factors end up boosting the customer’s lifetime value & stickiness, where the customer ends up spending more with your product and brand as a result. This can lead to better cashflow & revenue predictability over the long term for you.

What to Consider When Evaluating a Subscription App?
You shouldn’t treat a Shopify subscription app like a simple plugin. It should meet certain requirements before you decide to invest time into setting it up and running it. Below are some important points:
Compatibility With Your Store
It’s important to evaluate if the app is compatible with your store first. Nowadays, all Shopify apps are installed via the Shopify App Store, and you can then add them to specific sections using modular app blocks.
For most newer and up to date shops, this shouldn’t be a problem, but if you’re on an older Shopify setup, you may need to review this to see if there are any issues when installing the subscription app.
Features
We often say “offering subscriptions” as if there is only one way to do this, but the reality is that it’s not. Between subscription cycles, payment methods, discounts, loyalty & offered products, there are various implementation methods & offerings to carry it out in a way that really supports your business model.
That’s why reviewing features before you integrate is so important. You want to be sure the app can meet your current and hopefully future needs before you commit to using it.
Customizability
You want to know to what degree the app is customizable. Some important areas to look at would be the frontend design of the widget and customer portal, the subscription plans (subscription cycles & payments), and the ability to offer add-ons and cross/upsells as well.
Customer Management
A big part of a successful subscription program is the ability for the customer to manage the subscription by themselves without seeking help from your team. Most apps come with a customer portal which you should be able to test & review before launching a subscription feature live.
Pricing
Evaluate how the app prices usage. Do they charge by number of ongoing transactions, total revenue, number of products, or a mix? Also make an effort to evaluate the effects on your sales revenue and mix over the long term as the subscription plan takes off.
Support
Last but not least, app support is also very important and can be a huge differentiator in value. There are support teams that leave you hanging once payment is made, and others that make an effort to ensure your success. It can be hard to tell without experiencing it yourself, but reading the reviews usually gives a good gauge.

Appstle Subscriptions App for Shopify
Let’s start breaking down the key points for Appstle.
Subscriptions Feature
Appstle’s core product is the Subscriptions app. It’s a highly modular app that allows all manner of subscriptions for your Shopify store. Below are some of the ones we use frequently & find helpful:
1. You’re able to create multiple subscription plans and assign specific collections, products and even variants to each plan. This means you can set different subscription rates for different products, or only offer some products as subscriptions.

2. You’re able to set daily, weekly, or monthly frequencies for subscriptions, and allow customers to pay as they go (which follows your set frequency), or make a prepayment at the start of the contract. For example, you can let customers choose between bi-weekly or monthly subscriptions.

3. You can also offer an incentive discount for the first cycle if you so wish. For business annual plans, you can even offer a free trial.

4. Under “Policies”, you can decide when you want Appstle to deduct from your inventory (on sale or on fulfilment), and quite importantly, what the cancellation policy is for the customer on this subscription plan, i.e. when they are allowed to cancel their subscription. The minimum is 1 order (the initial), and the maximum is 100. Most of our customers set this around 2–3 cycles.

5. For the Business Annual Plan, you may also set the widget to collect additional details such as allowing customers to write remarks, selecting from a range of options, and inputting date fields. You can also set a pre-delivery email to be sent a set number of days before the order.

6. You can also adjust subscription discount rates as the subscription progresses. Good for incentivising the customer to stick with the subscription for the longer term.

7. Lastly, you can view all subscriptions in a dashboard regardless of whether they have cancelled or paused their subscriptions.

Widget Customization
For the subscription widget, there are a few options for you to choose from, however do note that some widget options require the Business Annual Plan. You can also change the labels, text, and colours on the widget. If you know how to grab the CSS selectors, there is also a custom CSS option for you to add and edit specific details as well.

Customer Portal
Here are some of the features & customisation options of the Appstle customer dashboard:
1. Customers can pause, skip, modify, or even trigger their next subscription order immediately.

2. You can also allow customers to add notes & remove products from their subscription if they so wish.

3. You can also create discount codes for subscription customers to use, and allow them to change product quantities in their existing subscription if you wish.

4. Customers can also be allowed to reschedule their upcoming & future deliveries, giving them a degree of flexibility as well.

5. Lastly, you can also set restrictions on what customers are allowed to change on their plans within a set number of days before the subscription order. Do note that this requires the Business Annual Plan.

Other Useful Features
Inventory Check. If your customers tend to get multiple products in one subscription order, you can set inventory check settings where orders for products that are in stock are fulfilled on the order date, while out-of-stock items are put on hold and the customer is updated via email.
Custom Shipping Profiles. You can set custom shipping profiles for your subscription plans that run separately from your normal shipping settings. You may wish to set a discounted shipping rate for subscriptions, or even offer free shipping specifically for subscription orders.

Our Experience
Below are the details of how it’s been for us using Appstle.
Helpdesk Support
We’ve been working with Appstle for quite a while and the support has been genuinely great. How it normally goes is that whenever we meet a roadblock, we’d reach out to Appstle via the Shopify app widget to ask about it. If it’s a common question, Appstle’s AI answer base will find an answer or guide and share it with you, but once you ask for a human, their support team gets back to you pretty fast.
After we explain the issue clearly, their team will find a solution and prepare Loom videos to walk you through it clearly. With your permission, they can even access your store to help make changes on your behalf.
They make a great effort to do their best to meet your requests.
Once the issue is resolved, there will be the standard “please leave us a review” follow-up, but that’s expected and reasonable.
Account Management
We also find the customer account management dashboard & features to be very in-depth and user friendly. When you click into each customer, you can view all the details such as full order details, past and upcoming orders, and activity logs.
You can also edit their orders from your end as well. Ideally the customer should do it themselves, but we all know it’s not always that simple when it comes to customers.

Integrations With Other Appstle Features
Finally, there’s another part that is worth noting. Apart from the Subscriptions app, Appstle also offers a range of other apps to support Shopify stores, such as Appstle Bundles & Appstle Loyalty. Appstle Subscriptions can integrate with these sister apps, which means that subscription products can be offered as part of the rewards or volume discounts of these apps.
This means that further down the line, when you want to add other features for your store, you can use Appstle’s apps which will help avoid most of the major integration pitfalls we’ve seen with other apps. However, this also means that you become more dependent on Appstle for your entire store operations.
Final Thoughts
eCommerce on Shopify can get pretty complex. You want to meet your customers’ needs holistically so that they spend more with your store, but this also means you need to work with a plugin that’s committed to constant development, meets your needs reliably, and is easy to manage & maintain over the long term.
It also has to be reasonably priced, and provide value-added support on the technical side.
If you’re looking for a subscription plugin for Shopify, we believe that Appstle can meet your needs.

Summary
There are a few popular ones worth considering depending on your store’s needs:
Recharge — One of the most established subscription apps on Shopify, trusted by large enterprise brands.
Seal Subscriptions — A great option for merchants just starting out.
Loop Subscriptions — A retention-focused app built for brands that want smart upsells, cancellation flows, and integrated analytics.
Integration is a big one. Subscriptions require you to recurring charge the end user, which means the app needs to play nice with your other sales apps such as upsells, volume discounts, and so on.
It is also important to ensure your customer is clearly aware that there is a recurring charge. The last thing you want is a complaint being filed because they were unaware they had signed up for a subscription.
When just starting out, your first customers are likely to come from your existing base. Consider sending out an email campaign to update them, and place promotional banners on your website to announce the subscription.
Also make sure your terms and conditions are flexible and easy to find and view. Customers are more likely to take up subscriptions if they know cancellation is not a hassle, or that there is a free trial available.
